Hue Loco Equinox Yarn Review

Knitting is about creating something cozy and collectively crafting pieces that reflect our personal style and creativity. Hue Loco gives an opportunity to explore and expand personal style amongst seasonal change with its latest release, The Equinox Collection.

This ten skein Autumn yarn offering is complete with stunning colors and luxurious texture on great weight bases.

I received an advanced look at the Equinox Collection on mohair and this texture is as lovely as day one of Autumn.

Let’s deep dive or if you’re like TLDR, tap here to add to cart. I find the 10 colorway names seasonally inspiring and definitely has me in an Autumn mood:

Magic Hour / Luminary / Firelight / Harvest Moon / Homecoming / Orchard / Acorn/ Changing Leaves / Autumn Sky / Oakmoss

Magic Hour is inspired by ethereal moments after sunset and when the sky fills with rich blue and vibrant purple hues. This first tonal has a deep periwinkle and violet base with layers of cerulean, teal, plum, and mahogany.

Luminary is second and is like the equinox itself. It channels the celestial with its energetic violet-purple base.

Firelight follows as third and evokes Autumn’s warmth and cozy arrival. It’s like breaking out that favorite wool sweater for Autumn start with its mulberry skein that is layered with hues of deep violet, burnt orange, and ochre. This is such a dimensional colorway that is lively but still wearable, and a colorway I recommend to match with neutral coats and purses.

Harvest Moon is fourth and is a beacon of light and signal that the hard work of summer is ending, as a new season approaches. Its interpretation is this radiant force of nature visualized as a pure, golden orange semisolid hue that truly feels lit from within.

Homecoming rounds out in fifth and calls on all of the comfort and nostalgia inherent this time of year. It is a toasty pumpkin and cream skein that is blanketed with subtle mauve and ochre tones and generous olive green and deep violet speckles.

Don't these top five swatch up so beautifully?

These bottom five swatches are just as gorgeous!

Orchard is sixth and is as juicy as a fresh-picked apple. A delicious golden yellow skein is topped with tart berry pink and pumpkin orange hues, and finished with generous magenta, violet, and steel blue speckles.

Acorn is seventh and is fall summed up in a color. This earthy bronze semisolid has a beautiful golden undertone, and a subtle tonal shift from tobacco green to toasty umber, and one that I recomend pairing with high end gold jewelry.

Changing Leaves follows as eighth and is inspired by that first sighting of orange among familiar foliage. This variegated pine green and cream skein is striking with its pumpkin orange accents and deep teal, moss, and violet speckles.

Autumn Sky is ninth and calls upon the feeling of that first cool Fall frosty morning. Warming ochres and deep red-browns contrast with crisp robin's egg blue and cooling moments of aqua and cobalt, signaling that a transition is on its way.

Oakmoss rounds out in tenth and is inspired by the equinox sentiment of settling into Autumn, reminding us to slow down and notice the little details. This gentle and understated colorway pairs neutral golden straw with cool foggy blue, accented with deep teal and earthy speckles.

The mini sets and 50s are also super beautiful. There are ten 20 gram minis per set for a total of 200 grams and ten 50 gram 50s per set for a total of 500 grams, that come on various merino nylon blends.

I absolutely love how the Equinox Collection crochet swatches up as well. My favorites are definitely Homecoming, Orchard, Acorn, and Changing Leaves!

Final review: Buy this collection. The full skein set for 310.00 is a beautiful seasonal worthy investment. You can also opt to mix, match, and explore full skeins at 30.00 usd each, and sock sets starting at 46.40 usd.

I had so much fun knitting my swatch while holding Acorn, Changing Leaves, and Oakmoss mohair strands together, and dreaming up a beautiful lightweight Autumn sweater.

I also would love a piece with Acorn worked up on DK or Worsted.

Hue Loco does a wonderful job of offering pairing options for each colorway, and I would love to make a seasonal garment or accessory that coordinates with the Cracked Pepper, Dove, Agave, Sangria, & Pear semisolids.

Changing Leaves will definitely be among your favorite colorways, but every color comes on these beautiful yarn weight bases:

Suri / Mohair / Merino Sock / Phyllis Sock / Single Sock / Spun Sock / DK / Worsted / Bulky

These ten colorways are a celebration of nature's last burst of color before Winter blankets the landscape. From cool purples through the toastiest oranges and harvest greens and golds, Equinox is packed with pure hues and rich, layered colorways that are made to make you glow. It is a yarn collection that will help elevate loving your personal wardrobe, whether embracing cozy weekend-ready neutrals, indulging in luxury office wear or the perf little dinner black dress, or taking a deep and meditative walk in the woods.

I definitely give the Equinox Collection a ten out of ten as a beautiful ‘hello Autumn’ share with knitters, crocheters, and makers that love seasons and indie-dyed yarn like this.
