Hi, I'm Jewell Washington, the knitwear designer behind Northknits, and I'm thrilled you're here!

I taught myself how to knit in college, originally as a creative outlet and a way to slow down. I started knitting as a hobby in South Carolina and continued with it as hobby-business, launching Northknits, upon moving to Chicago and completing graduate school downtown. Northknits is my pattern shop inspired by city life, life wear, and cool modern handmade vibes.

My designs focus on garments and accessories you'll love to knit and wear too. Think seasonal layering pieces, approachable construction, and texture. Whether you're new or longtime in your knitting journey, my goal is to help you find a pattern that is fun to knit and build into your wardrobe.

Around designing, you'll also find me exploring Chicago, being a corporate girl boss, working on a new project with a good cup of coffee, and connecting with fellow makers through community, as the founder of Our Maker Life.
