Review: Hue Loco Rain or Shine You’re Mine—A Unique Valentine's Collection
Rain or Shine You’re Mine Yarn launches Feb.14, 2025
L to R: Half the Burden Twice the Joy, Glee, Wonder, Sunny Day, This Too Shall Pass, Downpour, Silver Lining, Barefoot in Puddles, Feeling Blue I See You, and Better Together
There’s something quite special about a yarn collection that tells a story, and Hue Loco has done just that with Rain or Shine, You're Mine. This isn’t your standard Valentine’s Day drop filled with pink and red hearts. Instead, it’s an intentional, deeply thoughtful collection that explores love in all its forms—the joy, the struggles, the unexpected warmth, and the unbreakable bonds we share with others.
The colors? Pure magic. The theme? A reminder that love is present no matter the weather—sunny days, storms, and everything in between.
I received this stunning collection ahead of its February 14th pre-order release, so let’s explore the colorways and what makes it lovely and meaningful.
The Colors: A Story in Every Skein
This yarn collection is beautifully curated over ten skeins to represent the multifaceted emotions of love and each color offers its own unique vibe:
Half the Burden, Twice the Joy – A peachy-pink blend with delicate speckles of blue, violet and black, symbolizing the beauty of sharing life’s moments, both the good and the bad.
Glee – A soft, speckled dream of pastels and neutrals, like pure happiness wrapped in yarn. Perfect for those moments of unexpected joy.
Wonder – A bright, happy chartreuse that radiates energy and curiosity, like a spark of optimism on a cloudy day.
Sunny Day – A warm glowing peach with golden undertones, reminiscent of that feeling when love fills the room with light.
This Too Shall Pass – A calming sage green, like a steady moment or reminder that love endures even in difficult times.
Downpour – A deep moody and rich teal like the rain that washes away doubt and makes way for clarity.
Silver Lining – A speckled neutral with cool watery blue-violet undertones, representing hope and the bright moments that always follow the storm.
Barefoot in Puddles – A playful mix of blues, purples, and neutrals, capturing that carefree, childlike joy of splashing through life together.
Feeling Blue, I See You – A moody blue with depth and character, embracing the idea that even in sadness, love sees and holds space for us.
Better Together – A dark blend of denim and plum with subtle multicolored pink and red flecks, reminding us that love is stronger when shared.
The Rain or Shine, You’re Mine collection is very special in that it is a celebration of love in all its complexities. It goes beyond romantic love and includes friendship, family, community, and self-love too. Love isn’t always picture-perfect. Sometimes, it is soft and warm like Sunny Day. Other times, it is deep and contemplative like Downpour. But through every season, love is what keeps us going. That is the magic of this collection—it captures love in all its forms and reminds us that no matter what, love is always present.
My Perspective and Why I Love It
As soon as this collection arrived at my home, I immediately felt spark joy and grabbed for my favorite 5.5 mm ChiagoGoo needles (check out all of my fave maker tools here) to swatch. The colors and my chosen DK weight felt intentional and like they were made to tell a personal story. I love how it’s a mix of moody, bright, and neutral tones. It mirrors real-life love which can offer us this journey of excitement, variety, stillness, security, peace, loyalty, and a range of different feelings.
I love a sage green next to a bright chartreuse and quickly reached for This Too Shall Pass and Wonder as the grounding green and bright hue colors easily blend and feel like a perfect combo. I’m also planning to add in Glee and Feeling Blue, I See You for a knit color block scarf that flows from earthiness to high energy to fun pastel and moody blue. I’m not overthinking or controlling the WIP and instead am just letting the colors guide me with this sort of easygoing self-love kind of knit flow.
Now, I’m also a total pink and red give-me-all-the-hearts-more traditional Valentine Day kind of knitter and will always grab for pink and red yarns. I love chocolate, romance, diamonds, and dating with meaningful hugs and kisses. But what I particularly love about Hue Loco Yarn, and specifically this collection, is that it allows me to explore colors that I might not typically dive into. Hue Loco colors just have a way of working together in this unconventional, yet very sensical and intentional way. Every single color in the Rain or Shine, You’re Mine collection matches beautifully well and play off of each other to offer a myriad of color palettes.

Project Ideas and Pairings
So, what to knit with these beauties? Here’s a few ideas:
Sweaters & Cardigans
Use Silver Lining as a neutral base and stripe in Feeling Blue, I See You and Barefoot in Puddles for a cool, stormy effect.
Try Better Together for a textured pullover with rich depth.
Shawls & Wraps
A two-color fade with Downpour and Sunny Day would be absolutely dreamy.
A speckled contrast with Half the Burden, Twice the Joy and Wonder knit in brioche or fisherman’s rib would create a vibrant piece.
Hats & Socks:
Wonder and Glee would make the happiest colorwork hat!
This Too Shall Pass could be a soothing sock color that pairs with everything.
Whether you’re knitting a gift for someone special or creating something just for you, this collection has the perfect color to bring your project to life.
